Christmas is definitely one of my favourite times of the year, all the food, music, festive traditions and the joyful happiness everywhere you go. I love love love it. I also adore how festive everything is in the house. As a family we have a very traditional Christmas style with loads of gold and red, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. The colours to me signify the season, and I just am really not into all the white and less conventional colours I see around.
I just wanted to simply share some of my favourite things about Christmas, generally more about the build up than the day itself. I’m pretty sure I did the same last year, so maybe I am creating my own little blog tradition for myself.
Food and Drink: At this time of year there are so many things to eat and drink which you just simply can’t at any other time in the year. Mince pies (or the warm pastry in my case), turkey, mulled wine etc… However for me it isn’t just about eating all of this, it is also about making it too. I absolutely love cooking, and find this time of year such a good opportunity to develop my knowledge of food. I use so many different flavours such as cinnamon and nutmeg, in dishes we do eat throughout the year. Making traditional things festive brings me so much joy. I also enjoy all the amazing Christmas programmes on, for exams Nigella’s Christmas or the new programme from Jamie Oliver.
Decorations: Even though many people may bring the decorations out a little early, I can’t deny that I do suddenly feel so festive inside. I love how that once in the year everything is different, sparkly and festive. Not only the Christmas tree, but all the lights everywhere, cute christmas signs and so many more. Everything is just lit up and makes everyone happy inside. I cannot even describe how sad it makes me when everything is taken down.
Presents: I’m not going to deny that I don’t love presents, and I do think that I have the mental age of a 5 year old when opening presents, however I do love giving them just as much as receiving. I am not the most organised person in the world, but I do try to start buying presents early enough so that I can spread the cost. With that said, they do all get wrapped on Christmas Eve. I love how much though everyone puts into gifts and I enjoy doing the same. I think it is so important to but gifts with a real meaning, and not just for the sake of it.
Family and Friends: At the time of year I love to spend time with family and friends, as it is just so relaxing and fun. We always manage to have such an amazing time, each year better than the other. It is just so lovely to get together, not having to worry about someone not being able to make it etc… for a small amount of time everybody is able to just be in the same place at the same time. I feel like this is something that we all struggle to do nowadays.
Clothes: As many of you are probably aware, I am a big fashionista, and during the Christmas period this is the perfect opportunity to get dressed up all the time and nobody will question why. I love all the glittery dresses, gold shoes, over the top jewellery and fur coats! I also love seeing what everyone else is wearing…getting a few tips 😉
Shopping: The shopping may not be for me, but I do still get the same buzz one doing so. I am a major shopaholic, and it just makes me feel so happy. At Christmas time it is even better, as everyone seems so full of joy and happiness.
What do you love about Christmas?
– have a great weekend –
