A part of my life that I rarely bring to the blog is fitness. This probably has something to do with the fact that I am not consistent in my exercise regime, therefore I am not in a position to advise you! I also feel like my fitness level and weight is not where it should be if I am going to preach all my tips and tricks. However, I do want to start talking about it more, sharing with you what I do to try and stay active and healthy. Let’s just say, any fitness posts you see on here are aimed at amateurs like myself. I exercise because I want to get into shape and be as healthy as possible… I don’t think I will ever be one of those inspirational fitness bloggers with abs and a toned physique. But i’m sure that something will come of my posts, being able to help people and myself with realistic goals and just feeling so much more healthy in ourselves.

As I think everyone is aware now, exercise releases endorphins which makes people happy. I definitely notice a difference in myself when I am consistent with my routine. Therefore, feel the need to do it more and more, not getting out of the habit. Starting exercise properly was so difficult to begin with. I didn’t feel confident at all in myself, so kept coming up with excuse after excuse not to do it. Breaking through that wall was so difficult, but I got there in the end. I want to share with you today the things that helped me get through that, as well as helping me sustain it. Getting fit isn’t just about exercising, it is also about diet and a balance between things that you enjoy in life. So much to think about.. I know! 

Exercise Early
The best thing for me is exercising as early in the day as possible. Not only is it then out of the way, but it means that your body is going to feel amazing all day long, as well as a little bit tired and achey. Exercising early increases your metabolism, meaning that you burn more calories throughout the day. It really is one of the best things to do, to just get it done and out of the way. On my days off I always find it so difficult to get up and do this, but I feel such a sense of pride when I do. It also means that I am then up and ready to get on with other things that need to be done. 
Get Cooking
If you want to get fit, you need to get your cooking on. Be organised and prep like a boss… as Joe Wicks would say. This step for me is so easy as it is something that I really enjoy and is important to me. There is nothing better than a home cooked meal in my eyes. If cooking isn’t for you that is totally okay, but it is kind of necessary if you want to be healthy. Say goodbye to numerous takeaways a week and ready meals deemed to help you lose weight. Have your three meals a day, and prepare yourself healthy snacks to munch on when you feel like you need a boost. This food doesn’t have to be extremely healthy, it just has to be freshly prepared and be giving your body the nutrients it needs to become a healthier person. A few of my favourite things to cook are:

Weetabix // Poached Eggs // Toasted Bagel // Almond Milk Porridge


Tuna Salad // Chicken Toasted Wrap // Homemade Soup // Leftovers!


Spaghetti Bolognese // Chicken Pie // Risotto // Lemon Chicken and Mash

Find What You Enjoy
Exercise isn’t just about going to the gym and getting some cardio in.. it should also be about the things you enjoy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good session on the cross trainer followed by some simple weight workouts, but if I did it everyday I would drive myself insane. I like to go between things, mixing it up a little bit. The gym really isn’t for everyone, which is totally okay as there are plenty of other things that will do. Personally, I love swimming. Not only is swimming great as it burns so many calories, but it also completely relaxed my mind and I enjoy every moment. When I am not feeling a proper workout, I often just go for a quick swim. If I don’t really want to go to the gym that day I also enjoy going for a short walk. Doing something small everyday really is all you can do. There are so many things around, so it is all about finding what is right for you and enjoying your workouts. 

Rest Days
Oh how I love these. I am always grateful for my days off from exercising. I am one of those people who get tired so easily, not because I’m lazy but because everything I do I do properly. I am someone who is always busy and I don’t really know how! I am not someone who goes to the gym everyday, purely because on the days that I work I get so tired and don’t really need to purely because I am on my feet all day. I like to exercise 3-4 times a week which works well for me. I can fit this in easily around other things, and always feel like I have done enough my doing this. Everybody is different, and I would say that initially I was going probably more days a week, say 5 to 6, when I wanted to actually lose some weight. Now I am more at where I want to be, so I go purely to sustain this and stay active and healthy. Seeing as I do go less times a week, I also try to do a bit more in each to justify it. Instead of quick half an hour workouts, I make sure that I am staying active for at least 1 hour to 1.5 hours. 

Everything in Moderation
In order to get fit and healthy, I think the first thing to do is accept the principle of everything in moderation. I love my sweets and chocolate, but I also know that I need to be eating other nutrients to keep my body healthy. I rarely say no to naughty treats, but I do always make sure that I am never having too much and exercising more if I feel like I have over done it. Make sure that you are having your three proper meals everyday, filling yourself up in order to resist the urge to snack, as well as getting enough sleep and giving yourself you time. A rested mind will drive you to do better, whether that be with exercise, work or your personal life.
