Today I wanted to share a post that I have been really excited about putting together for a while. My hair has always been something that I am very careful about, and I seem to have had this drive within me to take care of it. Up until a year ago I had only had my hair coloured once, and I made sure that I did it properly. I went to an AVEDA salon, as I had heard very good things about the brand, and she simply put a few highlights in to even out the colour. My hair is very blonde naturally, so I didn’t feel like I needed that much doing. A year ago, I did a blog collaboration with a brand called Material Hair in Bath, and I loved it. As I was there for the blog, I wanted to get something done that was different. So, the stylist and I opted for a very bleached blonde look, that was virtually white. I had a full head of highlights and a toner to achieve the look. I absolutely adored the finished product and have wanted my hair to stay the same ever since. After that treatment, I then went back to an AVEDA salon in Bristol a few times to top up the colour and keep it fresh. When I did have it coloured properly, I made the decision that I was going to invest in my hair care products and only use ones that I know are healthy for my hair. This is why my hair care collection consists of only AVEDA and one product from Phillip Kingsley.
For full transparency, I have not been paid to advertise AVEDA nor gifted the products, however at one-point last year I was working for a salon who used them. But I must say, I loved the brand before this and continue to do so now. I love everything the brand stands for and the results that are evident from my hair since using them. I often have a few followers asking me about my hair care and the products I use, so I thought I would pop it all in one blog post and tell you guys exactly what I use day to day to keep my hair healthy, shiny and happy.
So firstly, let’s talk shampoo and conditioner. I am very strict on how often I get my hair done and what products are used. I don’t want my hair to suffer as a result of getting it coloured, so as you can imagine, this can be a little more expensive. For this reason, I only use AVEDA shampoo and conditioner. Not only does it increase the health of the hair, but also it prolongs the colour. Cheaper, high street products have now been proven to strip colour out of the hair, essentially making it pointless to pay lots of money to get your hair done. I have been using my products for over a year and can honestly say that I get triple the amount of wear out my hair colour. Also, on first impression, the products are more expensive. However, you only use a small amount, so I have found that I get a lot longer out of a bottle and in theory it costs the same amount. You will never regret that initial investment in the products.
The washing products I use from AVEDA are from the Colour Conserve range, as for me preserving my colour is very important. I want to get the most wear out of it, and I can say these products work a treat. As well as doing wonders for the colour, they also keep my hair hydrated and healthy, and as with everything from AVEDA, they smell amazing! I only wash my hair now 2-3 times a week, as these products also have dramatically reduced how oily my roots can be.
The other conditioner I use is a purple conditioner, used to take brassy tones out the hair and keep the colour light and fresh. This is again an AVEDA product, for the reasons above! I only use this once a week, and a mix a little drop in with my normal conditioner to ensure my hair is still getting the care it needs. After using it for almost 8 months, I can vouch that it definitely works. After using it my hair is instantly brighter and all yellow tones have completely disappeared.
A treatment is a newer addition to my hair care regime, as I only started using it around six months ago. I do it probably once a fortnight, and I leave it on as an overnight treatment mask. I use the ‘Damage Remedy’ intensive restructuring treatment. I slather my hair in this, roots to tips, pop it up and sometimes will put a shower cap on purely to protect my bed sheets. I then wash it off in the morning, using a double shampoo to thoroughly wash it out and clean the hair. The results are amazing – my hair is always super soft and shiny, without being greasy. This for me is always an essential on a sunny holiday, as the sun really dries out my hair. If you don’t want to invest in the AVEDA product, the same can be done with more natural products such as coconut oil or olive oil.
The last product in my hair care basket is a heat protective spray for when I dry my hair. The one I use is from Phillip Kingsley, which was recommended to me when I got my hair coloured at Material Hair. Once I have washed and towel dried my hair, having brushed it out with my tangle teezer, I spritz this all over my hair, particularly the ends. It smells divine and is one of those products that you only really know it works when you don’t use it! A little like SPF on your face.
I absolutely love using all the products in my hair care collection and can honestly say my hair is the best it has ever been. If you have any questions regarding these products, please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
